Suspects or accused who do not have sufficient means to pay for Counsel are entitled to legal aid. Legal aid is also provided to pay for Counsel for victims participating in the proceedings. The Legal Aid Regulations can be found here.

In July 2018, a legal expert from the KSC joined the Outreach team in presenting at a roundtable with journalists in Pristina and with civil society and local community officials in Obiliq/Obilić. The Outreach team also held consultations with NGOs in Pristina and Mitrovicë/Mitrovica North.
In four separate events organised by partner NGOs of the KSC in Kaçanik/Kačanik, Kamenicë/Kamenica, Shillovë/Šilovo and Pristina between 24-26 September 2019, KSC representatives addressed representatives of various communities in Kosovo as well as high school students and their teachers. As part of its Outreach programme, KSC staff travel to Kosovo on a monthly basis to inform people about the court and its activities, to answer questions and to encourage discussion with a wide range of groups from all over Kosovo.
From 17-21 June 2019, in events organised in cooperation with partner NGOs from Kosovo, the Outreach team spoke about the Kosovo Specialist Chambers mandate and activities, answered questions and participated in lively discussions with community representatives, legal professionals, law students and representatives of missing persons groups. Together with senior legal experts from Chambers, the Office of the Ombudsperson and the Victims’ Participation Office, the Outreach team engaged with people in Pristina, Ferizaj/Uroševac and Shtërpcë/Štrpce.
In a week of activities carried out between 1-5 April 2019, KSC representatives from the Ombudsperson’s Office, Victims’ Participation Office and Outreach met with NGOs and participated in events with law students, teachers, youth and others. KSC staff presented on the mandate and proceedings of the court, answered questions and listened to peoples’ comments and concerns. Events were held in Pristina, Gjakovë/Đakovica, Mitrovicë/Mitrovica North, Fushë Kosovë, Hoca e Madhe/Velika Hoča, Graçanicë/Gračanica and Grabovc/Grabovac.
Representatives of the Kosovo Specialist Chambers were in Kosovo between 5-8 February 2019, speaking to different groups in Kosovo about the mandate and activities of the court, the mandate of the Ombudsperson’s Office and the system of victims’ participation in future proceedings at the KSC. These events organised in partnership with local NGOs gave the KSC the opportunity to explain the court’s mandate to ensure secure, impartial, independent, fair and efficient proceedings to lawyers, NGO representatives, law students and youth.
