    Thaci et al. case: Defence appeals re. alleged indictment defects denied

    On 22 August 2022, the Court of Appeals Panel denied three appeals, filed by Thaci, Selimi and Krasniqi, against an earlier decision of the Pre-Trial Judge, in which some of the Defence’s preliminary motions were dismissed and the SPO was ordered to file a corrected version of the confirmed indictment.     Shala case: new tentative date to transmit the case to trial

    In his recent decision, the Pre-Trial Judge in the Shala case adjusted his initial projection of 31 August 2022 for transmission of the case to trial and set a new tentative date to 21 September 2022. Furthermore, the Judge extended the deadline for the Defence to submit its pre-trial brief from 15 August to 5 September 2022. The full decision is here.

    KSC Weekly Press Briefing on 18 August

    Another KSC weekly press briefing will take place on Thursday, 18 August at 14:30. During this briefing, the KSC Spokespersons will provide a short update on the latest developments in the judicial proceedings before the KSC, as well as on other public activities of the Court. Journalists will have the opportunity to ask questions. Pre-registration is required to attend each briefing. To pre-register, please send an email with name and affiliation to [email protected]. Deadline for pre-registration is every Thursday at 12:00. The Zoom details will be shared following pre-registration. Recordings of the update provided during the Weekly Press Briefings will be made available on the KSC YouTube Channel.

    Supreme Court dismisses Veseli’s request re. detention

    On 15 August 2022, the Supreme Court Panel, consisting of Judges Ekaterina Trendafilova (presiding), Christine van den Wyngaert and Michael Bohlander, dismissed the request by Kadri Veseli for protection of legality in relation to a decision by the Court of Appeals Panel on 31 March 2022, in which it upheld a Pre-Trial Judge’s decision continuing Mr Veseli’s detention.

    Second victim admitted to the proceedings in the Shala case

    On 11 August 2022, Pre-Trial Judge Guillou issued a second decision on victims' participation in the case against Pjetër Shala. One new applicant was admitted to the proceedings as a participating victim and this individual will be included in the existing group of victims (Group 1 with another person previously admitted) and shall be represented by the same Victims' Counsel.

    Thaci et al. case: SPO to file further amended indictment

    On 22 July, the Pre-Trial Judge granted, in part, the request by the Thaci Defence alleging defects in the latest indictment against the accused in this case, filed on 29 April 2022. Judge Guillou ordered the SPO to file a further amended confirmed indictment, with a number of additional information to the current charges, by 30 September 2022.     Appeals by Shala, Selimi and Krasniqi re. detention dismissed

    During and shortly before the summer court recess, the Court of Appeals denied three Defence appeals against decisions on detention: on 19 July in the Shala case and on 29 July and 2 August the appeals by Selimi and Krasniqi (Thaci et al. case) were dismissed.
